FROM THE PRESIDENT
In the last edition of the “Bulletin”, you were advised of the growth in the membership of U3A Noosa – over 800. It is exciting to know that the variety and quality of our classes is such that people are attracted to join.
I would now like to point out the challenges that a larger population brings for those who have volunteered to administer our organisation and to run programs. We have more classes and events than ever before. This greatly increases the workload of the receptionists, treasurers, event organisers, those setting up the Auditorium for events and providing afternoon teas and Committee members.
Larger numbers mean that systems that used to be sufficient to keep membership and financial records are no longer adequate. Volunteers involved need to learn new programs and implement them. Back-up staff are required to share the load because there is more to be done in recording, for example, the income and expenditure of U3A Noosa.
Having our own building to meet in is a great advantage. However, keeping the building and its accoutrements in good working condition is a major job.
The reason I am bringing these things to your attention is not to have a “whinge” but to encourage you to become involved in the running of your U3A. We frequently need volunteers to help with specific events or undertake more on-going roles in committees or sub-committees. These situations could arise because a Committee member needs to resign or because there is an event which needs staff. At the moment a small number of volunteers is carrying an ever-increasing load. I ask you please to consider what you can do to help. You might be asked to assist or you might see an area in which you would like to work. Please respond positively if there is an activity in which you could help. The old saying “Many hands make light work” certainly applies to a thriving organisation like your U3A Noosa.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to volunteer or have any questions or suggestions. (5449 9514)
I, like you, continue to enjoy the classes I attend. I am grateful to all those who contribute to this enjoyment especially the tutors.
